Department of Mechanical Design
l Overview of the department
The Department of Mechanical Design was formed in August 2018 by the merging of the Section of Mechanical Design, the Section of Engineering Mechanics and the Secition of Drawing. It mainly undertakes the schoolwide teaching tasks of engineering graphics, engineering mechanics, mechanical principles, and mechanical design.
l Teaching faculty
The structure of the teaching faculty is reasonable. There are 37 instructors including 3 professors, 16 associate professors, 19 lecturers. Among them there are 27 teachers with doctoral degrees, and 8 teachers with overseas experience.
l Teaching Conditions/Professional Laboratories
In terms of teaching, the Department focuses on the construction of new engineering, the development of first-class undergraduates and applied undergraduates, pays attention to the improvement of teaching quality and teaching effect, and starts from the needs of talent innovation and training, participate in the Advanced Drawing Technology Innovation Competition and the National Zhou Peiyuan College Mechanics Competition , Mechanical Innovation Design Competition and Engineering Training Ability Competition, so as to improve the students' mechanical design level and enhancing students' innovative thinking in the field of mechanical design, to provide training methods for enhancing students' innovative awareness and engineering practice ability of mechanical majors, and to provide the support for graduation requirements for students to solve complex mechanical engineering problems. There are 10 laboratories for teaching, such as mechanical design, mechanical principle laboratory, electronic tension and twist, torsion, pure bending electrical measurement, universal testing machine laboratory, and computer drawing room, mold room.
l Honors and Awards
In the past three years, our teachers have supervised the National Zhou Peiyuan College Students Mechanics Competition, the National College Students Engineering Training Comprehensive Ability Competition, the Mechanical Engineering Innovation Competition, Mathematical Modeling, 3D Modeling, the Picture Cup, Shanghai College Students Mechanics Competition and other discipline competitions. The students have won 4 national first prizes, 1 second prize and 7 third prizes; 13 Shanghai special prizes, 30 first prizes, 120 second prizes, and 6 outstanding organization awards. Building a new model of talent training with two wings and improving the innovative and practical ability of mechanical undergraduate students won the second prize of 2017 Shanghai Teaching Achievement Award. Mechanics of Materials and Concise Engineering Mechanics (textbooks) won 2015 Shanghai Excellent Textbook Award.
Focusing on the construction of a master's degree in the discipline of mechanical design and theory, the Department has outstanding achievements in research directions such as robot mechanics, mechanical vibration and control, and multiphysics coupling numerical simulation. We have won 2 second prizes of Industrial Science and Technology, 1 Chinese Patent Excellence Award, 2 Shanghai Teaching Achievement Awards, and taken charge of over 7 National Natural Science Foundation of China. In the past three years, our graduate students have obtain 3 national scholarships, 4 graduates have been admitted to Tongji University, Shanghai Universit, and 3 students have been awarded the title of Shanghai Outstanding Graduates.
